Let’s celebrate! The Week of the Young Child starts Monday

Each year, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) hosts a celebration of early learning, young children, and their teachers and families. They call it the Week of the Young Child. Each day of the week has a specific theme that underscores the value of early learning.

“The Week of the Young Child honors the importance of early childhood education and the positive experiences teachers and staff provide for children and families every day,” said Elanna Yalow, CEO of KCE early learning programs.

April 24 – Music Monday

Through music, children develop a medley of skills like math, language, and literacy. Come up with a classroom song and share it with your center community and on Yammer. You can change a popular song to have unique lyrics, or write lyrics and melody all on your own! See more music resources from NAEYC.

April 25 – Tasty Tuesday

Eating healthy at KinderCare Education is a breeze, especially with our new menu options and nutrition guidelines. On Tuesday, focus on healthy eating habits like family style dining, activities that get children moving, and connect with parents about how they can mirror these activities at home. April 26 – Work Together Wednesday

Teamwork makes the dream work! When children work together, they explore math and science concepts and develop their social and early literacy skills. Practice building together to see all this learning in action. Whether it’s a fort on the playground or a block city in the classroom, building together is a foolproof way to make learning fun. April 27 – Artsy Thursday

Children develop creativity, social skills, and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands. On Artsy Thursday, celebrate the joy and learning children experience when engaged in creative art making. Need some ideas for fun crafts? Click here!

April 28 – Family Friday

At KCE, we know all about making lasting connections with the families we serve. And we know that parents and teachers are invaluable partners in the early education experience of every child. On Family Friday, invite parents to stick around the center for a few extra minutes in the morning or afternoon to get to know one another, chat with teachers, or even enjoy a snack!
