Share a bit about your professional background:
I’m a project manager, operations consultant and coach with a background in education operations and service design. I lead the Learning & Development department for the Portland chapter of an international nonprofit organization, and maintain a small coaching and freelance writing/editing practice.

What excites you most about working at KCE?
I’m passionate about supporting teams to strive for continuous improvement and positive outcomes, and look forward to helping enhance the experiences of our families.

Tell us a unique fact about yourself:
I once sang for the pope at St. Peter’s Basilica.

What’s your favorite children’s book?
Serendipity by Stephen Cosgrove

Bruce Thompson, Senior Financial Analyst

Share a bit about your professional background:
Finance is actually my second career. I worked in sales for ten years before attending college and earning a degree in business. In the last five years I’ve learned from some great people at Clorox, Walmart.com, and Apple. I look forward to learning more here and applying the skill sets I have gained to help KCE continue its fantastic growth.

What excites you most about working at KCE?
I’ve always loved kids, their perspective and enthusiasm for life is infectious. I’m excited to be part of an organization that is focused on fostering that enthusiasm and helping children learn and grow.

Tell us a unique fact about yourself:
I really enjoy shopping for used clothing, it’s my grown up treasure hunt, and it saves me money as well.

What’s your favorite children’s book?
Madeline – Old House in Paris. I’ve read this one about 1,000 times with my daughter and I love how she says the words with me, and get excited about saying “boo boo” to the tiger at the zoo every time!

If you’re relocating, where are you from and what are you most looking forward to about living in Portland?
I’ve lived in the Bay Area my entire life. I’m looking forward to having a backyard so my little girl has a place to play, and exploring the outdoors in this beautiful city.

Share a bit about your professional background:
I have 10+ years in customer service, most of which was spent in a call center environment where I filled a variety of roles from inbound phone agent to training new hire classes.

What excites you most about working at KCE?
I’m excited to be a part of a company that’s working toward a brighter future by striving to enrich the lives of today’s youth that so highly values its employees and their families.

Tell us a unique fact about yourself:
When I was younger I had pet squirrel that I had rescued, his name was Sysco the Squirrel.

What’s your favorite children’s book?
I love reading as a kid, and still do, so it’s a little hard to pick just one favorite… but here a couple: The Giving Tree, Where the Side Walk Ends, and James and the Giant Peach.

Alyssa Horton, HR Generalist

Share a bit about your professional background:
I received my BA from St Cloud State University and went on to earn my Master in HR Management at Concordia University, St Paul. I most recently worked for PerkinElmer as an HR Coordinator. In that capacity, I supported a team of over 1,000 employees in the greater Boston area.

What excites you most about working at KCE?
I’m excited about the work we’re doing and the mission of the organization. It really excites me that people are our focus. I think the strength of our people is what will drive the overall success of our company. Plus, how can I not be happy about working improve education for our youth every day?

Tell us a unique fact about yourself:
I have road tripped with my cat Libby across the country twice.

What’s your favorite children’s book?
I’ve always loved Dr. Seuss books – Horton Hears a Who and Horton Hatches the Egg were my favorites growing up. But, I also love The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.

If you’re relocating, where are you from and what are you most looking forward to about living in Portland?
I recently moved from Boston where I’d been living for the past three years, but I’m originally from northern Minnesota. I’m extremely excited about living in Portland for the food, drink, and outdoor activities. I love the coast, the mountains, and the weather here is by far the best I’ve lived in so far.

Share a bit about your professional background:
Most recently I worked at a company called ProKarma, a customized IT Solutions provider. Prior to that I was with Cisco and worked in sales operations at both companies. Helping sales teams build pipelines and use tools more efficiently while working with marketing to increase lead generation through multiple avenues ultimately increasing our customer base.

What excites you most about working at KCE?
The opportunity to come in at a great time to develop process, drive awareness, and contribute to sales team success.

Tell us a unique fact about yourself:
I love to horseback ride any chance I get.

What’s your favorite children’s book?
There are so many! With three daughters I have so many favorites, but I would say Are You My Mother? is in the top five!
