Can you spell W-I-N-N-E-R? Michelle Mazzulo wins Schoolhouse Supplies’ Celebrity Spelling Bee

Last week, KinderCare Education’s very own Regional Director Michelle Mazzulo faced off against company leaders from across Portland at the annual Schoolhouse Supplies Celebrity Spelling Bee. Schoolhouse Supplies is a Portland nonprofit that supports public education by providing students and teachers with classroom supplies.

“It was all for a good cause, and I just kept praying – please let me make it past the first round!” said Michelle. “If anything made me nervous, it was the three tables of KCE cheerleaders in the front row – I didn’t want to let them down!”

The crowd cheered on Michelle and her spelling partner, Courtenay, as they picked off their competitors like the Portland Trailblazers, Wells Fargo, and KGW. The competition came down to KCE and presenting sponsor Fred Meyer. The two teams went back and forth, spelling words like “exobiology” and “rhododendron.” A misspelling of the word “gnocchi” by Fred Meyer put the win in KCE’s court, and our team took home the win with the correct spelling of “ephemerally.”

“The Spelling Bee has given me a great story to tell my grandkids,” said Michelle.

Michelle grew up around word games and puzzles like Scrabble, so it’s no wonder she came out on top!

Congratulations Michelle on your V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!
