Beach Elementary School reads big with KinderCare Education

On Tuesday, more than 140 KinderCare Education employees marched to Beach Elementary School in northeast Portland to donate books and kick off the school’s partnership with Read Big. The school’s 500 children were given a book for their home library to get them excited about reading.

“The best part for me was that the child I gave my book to was a former KinderCare kid, which was pretty cool!” said Katie Russell, One CMS Field Advocate.

Tuesday’s event marked the beginning of KCE’s third year participating in the Portland Trail Blazers’ Read Big campaign. Read Big encourages children to read more by keeping a reading log. Completed reading logs can be turned in to local libraries for rewards and prizes, including tickets to an upcoming Blazers game.

“I was able to give out two books and was amazed how well both of my first graders could read,” said Kari Strong, Senior Financial Analyst. “I look forward to seeing where our partnership with the Blazers and Read Big takes us next!”
