Champions leaders are in Deerfield Beach, Florida this week for their annual team meeting and awards banquet.
The meeting kicked off on Monday as Jill Brown, licensing and compliance adviser, hosted a dinner at her home for the team. Her husband took on the role of tour guide and took Champions regional managers Dan Figurski, Tom Fitzgerald, and Steve Jones on a boat ride along the Intercostal Waterway.
On Tuesday the regional managers attended an all-day meeting led by Champions Vice President Dan Figurski. Meeting topics included strategic initiatives for 2015, business development, the new mentor program, and summer plans. Later that night the team – joined by award-winning area managers and site directors – enjoyed a lively dinner at a beach-side restaurant.
Wednesday was all about training. Champions leaders defined their team’s mission and service values during the Mission Matters session and discussed the generational diversity in their programs during the Generational Crossroads session. After lunch, everyone took part in a spirited team-building exercise involving volleyballs and sheets. Sylvia Benoit, quality and accreditation advisor, and her team beat Erica Daniels, area manager, and her team (not that anyone was keeping score).
Last night’s award banquet was held poolside – the better to enjoy the balmy Florida night – and included guests of honor Tom Wyatt, Wei-Li Chong, Elanna Yalow, Kathie Boe, and Linda Hassan-Anderson, whose keynote speech “The Magic of Momentum” brought everyone to their feet. 2014 award winners included:
- Kate Schrader – Manager of Business Development of the Year
- Semira Sarancic – Regional Manager of the Year
- Erica Daniels, Julie Funfar, Karen Henson, Amy Harmon, Jim Tracey, James Mott – Circle of Excellence Area Managers
- Nakia Johnson, Gloria Castro, Amy Mosley, Angelica Marquez, Anne Leonardi – Quality Achievement Award winners
The week-long training concluded with workshops focused on accreditation and school-age curriculum.
“I feel so welcomed and part of this team,” said Site Director and Quality Achievement Award winner Anne Leonardi. “I am very grateful to be here!”
Dan Figurski echoed Anne’s sentiments. “It is an honor to share this experience with our Quality Achievement and Circle of Excellence Award winners. This is about improving children’s lives every day and we could not ask for a better team to represent the best of the best!”
