KU took community involvement to new heights in 2014

For many companies, providing a service as valuable as education would be a lofty enough goal. Not so for Knowledge Universe. This year our Community Partnerships program kicked into high gear and led the KU charge to support various nonprofit partners, bringing books, school supplies, and a helping hand to people in communities in Portland and around the country:

Schoolhouse Supplies Spelling Bee – KU supported Portland-based Schoolhouse Supplies in their annual fundraiser. Schoolhouse Supplies provides supplies to children around the Portland metro area.
Oregon Food Bank drive – NSC employees donated the equivalent of more than 1,000 meals

Shamrock Run – 115 KU employees and their families participated in a Portland tradition: the Shamrock Run, a fundraiser for the Dorenbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation
Read BIG turned one – KU teamed up with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2013 to launch a reading program in five Portland metro school districts. We celebrated the successful first year of the program (17,799 books read!) at Kelly School with our friend Robin Lopez.

Bring Your Child to Work Day – Portland Trailblazer’s mascot Blaze stopped by to join the children of NSC employees as they enjoyed themed activities for this “Plant a Seed, Grow a Future” event
Heart of Doernbecher – Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, one of the country’s leading pediatric hospitals, is in KU’s backyard and we’re proud to support the service they provide to children and families in times of illness

Light A Fire/Rising Stars – KU teamed up with Portland Monthly magazine for the second year in a row to honor 20 innovators (including a leader from KU’s HR team) considered to be the city’s Rising Stars
ONE Fund launched at PDD – One more reason to be proud to be a KU employee: we have a way to support one another through difficult times. To date, more than 840 employees joined this voluntary program.
Governor’s Gold Award – KU was recognized as a leading business in Oregon, contributing to factors that make the state a great place to live, work, and play
In Good Company – Each year KU sends one employee to this community service project that demonstrates firsthand the impact like-minded companies can have when they live out the old saying, “many hands make light work”
