Since she started with KinderCare nearly 30 years ago, Amanda French has known the importance of having a good team behind her. The center director from Alexandria, Virginia, values team work and is proud to work for an organization that values high-quality early childhood education.
“My team really works together to make the center warm and welcoming,” said Amanda. “We greet each parent each day, and we pay attention to a families needs with a smile. We are practiced in listening to what our parents are looking for.”
Her dedication to creativity, team work, and our service values makes Amanda Best in Class.
Amanda started her career at KinderCare as a preschool teacher before moving to assistant director, and now center director. Her 29 years of experience in centers have made her a mentor for other directors in the area.
“When I started, I was fortunate to have a center director who focused on each member’s individual strengths to grow the team,” said Amanda. “Now I try to let me team know how special they are–how much I appreciate what they do for our families and children. I am lucky to have a team that has grown to support each other.”
Amanda is a strong leader, and comes up with creative ways for her center to be the best place it can be for the children in her care.
“In my early years as a CD, we had a child in the center who had leukemia and was often hospitalized and not in the center,” she said. “We reached out to her team of nurses and we were able to bring her friends into my office so they could talk to her on the phone. We would call her and we’d make it just like circle time–she would sing and dance on the phone!”
Working with others has taught Amanda that making a difference in a child’s life is easy–as long as you think outside of the box.
“I love belonging to a company that believes in quality programming and a company that supports accreditation,” said Amanda. “My mission is to provide quality child care for our children and create an environment for families and children to feel welcomed.”
