Ever have that feeling that you should see a doctor, but you just aren’t sure you want to sit in the waiting room for half your day? Under a new benefit available to KU employees, you could take that appointment over a video conference instead.
In order to meet the demand for low-cost, quality medical care, the KU Benefits team this week will announce a new opportunity with American Well.
“I think the most exciting new program is telemedicine,” says Amanda Vincenti, senior director of benefits and employment administration. “You can access a doctor wherever and whenever you need one.”
With American Well’s Telemedicine, employees can connect with doctors through live video chat on a computer or smart phone. Telemedicine online consultations cost $49, and in most states the doctor can prescribe medication if needed. Enrolling for the service is free and employees who sign up by June 13 will be eligible to win a $50 gift card for the service.
“We are excited to offer these new programs because we want people to have more options,” Amanda says. “We understand that people are busy, and we want to offer convenient options.”
Other new programs include veterinarian pet Insurance and an auto and home insurance discount program.
“We heard you tell us that cost is an important factor,” says Amanda. “We heard you, and we’re always trying to find programs that are meaningful to our employees.”
