Families and staff at the McMurray KinderCare in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, are getting ready for their First Annual Family Walk. The event, created by the center, will take place this Saturday, May 31, at the Canon-McMillan Stadium from 10 a.m. – 1p.m. and benefits the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation (CHPF). The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, which is consistently ranked in the Top 10 of U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll of America’s “Best Children’s Hospitals.”

Center director Johanna Hoyt is proud of her center for partnering with CHPF to create an independent community event that gives people an opportunity to give back. So far, 168 adults and kids have signed up for the walk. Assistant Director Kelly Kramer put the event into motion.

“When Kelly came to me with the initial idea, I thought it was great,” said Johanna. “I told her to plan it and go for it! And she’s pretty much done all of it.”

Kelly, Johanna, and other staff members created a promising new event with help from several local businesses.

Each pre-registered participant will receive an event t-shirt designed by Adelaide, a student at the center. Stay tuned for updates after the event for final numbers: both participants and money raised.
